CO.AS.IT Social Support Groups - Centre Officers

CO.AS.IT supports older people living at home to make and maintain friendships, stay active and take part in activities of interest to them.

The CO.AS.IT Social Support Groups provide an opportunity for seniors to attend and participate in culturally appropriate social interactions. Our groups are designed to maintain and support social interactions and independent living. The benefits of Social Support Groups include, but are not limited to; the ability to live a longer and healthier life, boost individuals’ mood, provide a sense of purpose, aids in maintaining overall well-being, promote and provide social interaction with individuals from similar cultural backgrounds, improves cognitive decline, provides a social outlet for individuals to try new activities and form new friendships outside of their normal circle.

Regular sessions are held in accessible, comfortable and safe venues.

Activities are organised according to the interests and abilities of the people taking part and are designed to create opportunities to socialise and strengthen skills needed for daily living to maintain their confidence and independence.

The Centre Officer is the ‘go-to’ person in the Social Support Group Programs who completes the picture at any of our Centres. He/She will work closely with the Lifestyle and Well-being Officer and SSG Manager to present a program which engages our elderly community in a fun and safe environment.

CO.A.SIT. is seeking to employ 2 or 3 part-time or the full-time equivalent person/s for the position/s. The Centres are based in Melbourne's North West - Coburg.

The Centre Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day goings of each Centre, and ensures that consumer needs are met. This role involves some administrative work and computer knowledge is essential. This position requires a person who is a team player and can work collaboratively with all staff and must be available to work with consumers also.

Duties will include -

  • Ensures consumers’ needs are met on all levels; physical, cognitive, etc. and works with Lifestyle and Well-being Officer in planning of activities to nurture consumer needs.
  • Works collaboratively with SSG Program Coordinator in maintaining HCM and data records.
  • Looks after the daily running of the centre e.g., transportation, OHS, maintenance, verifies orders made by other staff.
  • Liaises with SSG Supervisor on staffing requirements for their Centre
  • Assists in day-to-day activities with consumers
  • Completes any documents required in reporting any incidents to SSG Supervisor in accordance with reporting procedures
  • Ability to accurately document consumer care/progress
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in both English and Italian
  • Sources and orders supply for activities/events in accordance with fortnightly planner of activities
  • Engages maintenance contractors as required
  • Understand and implement Quality Aged Care Standards, as amended
  • Other duties as requested by SSG Program Coordinator, Aged Care Services Manager or CEO

Qualifications -

  • Certificate in Individual Support (Ageing) minimum
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, DEX
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Food Handling Certificate
  • Current Driver’s licence
  • Ability to work in Australia with no VISA restrictions

  • A passion for aged care and a genuine desire to have fun
  • An upbeat personality that engages consumers

  • Ability to empower and lead a cohesive team
  • Ability to accurately document consumer care/progress
  • Previous experience working in Aged Care highly regarded

Salary - based on SCHADS Award - Social and Community Services Employee
