Role within a supportive multidisciplinary team

Banyule Community Health has a number of Wellbeing and Support programs. One of these programs, the LIFT Stepped Care for Mental Health Program is looking for an experienced peer support worker to join our established team. The LIFT team is a multidisciplinary team, comprising, peer support workers, care coordinators, mental health counsellors and mental health nurses, who deliver integrated and consumer-focussed support through the provision of highly tailored individual and group-based care, delivered face-to-face or via telehealth. This role will be based from West Heidelberg and Greensborough sites.

You are keen to contribute your mental health lived experience to engage with people who are struggling with their mental health and co-morbid issues.

You will work to engender hope and will build supportive and respectful relationships with people that nurture and encourage recovery-oriented thinking and behaviour.

You are empathetic, a good problem solver, able to work independently and as part of a strong team, as well as committed to positive client outcome.

About the role

Peer Support Workers are highly valued members of the established LIFT Mental Health Stepped Care program and across other teams at Banyule Community Health, including alcohol and other drugs.

Client work will be tailored and individualised to people's needs and will promote self-awareness through building shared understandings. Peer Support workers will work closely and collaboratively with LIFT and other wellbeing and support teams at BCH to support people with a welcoming, responsive and flexible approach. Considerable training and supervision will be provided, including regular opportunities for peer support workers to come together from different streams to learn from each other.

What you will need to be successful in this role:
Demonstrated experience and expertise in providing peer support to people who are struggling with their mental health
Demonstrated experience and expertise in providing peer support to people who in addition to struggling with mental health issues, are also experiencing co-morbid issues such as substance use, gambling, family violence, family breakdown, physical health issues, unemployment, legal issues, homelessness
Lived experience of recovery from mental health
Tertiary qualifications in mental health or a related health or human services field is desirable
Training and experience in the provision of intentional peer support is desirable
Experience working in mental health or a related field is desirable
Demonstrated ability to plan, organise, problem solve and work effectively, both independently and as a team member
Demonstrated ability to adapt and respond to change and manage challenges
Ability to work in partnership with a wide range of services
Ability to use computer software for administrative purposes, to record client notes and input data
Skills in facilitating/co-facilitating groups is desirable
