The Shire of Nillumbik is located 25 kilometres from Melbourne's CBD. The Shire covers an area of 430 square kilometres with the southern boundary of the Shire being the Yarra River and the North-Eastern boundary extending to the Kinglake Ranges.

About the role

This position is responsible for providing effective and efficient project support to the Economic Development and Tourism Unit, contributing to the ongoing operational efficiencies of the team through the application of a customer-first and continuous improvement mindset. The role reports directly to the Economic Development and Tourism Lead.


Provide efficient project support and assistance to the Economic Development and Tourism Unit.
Develop and monitor the annual business workshop calendar including scheduling, bookings and promotion.
Preparation and distribution of electronic newsletters and use of other online systems including the units Customer Management System.
Provide support to the Better Business Approvals Team and manage the administration of business applications.
Attend meetings, take minutes and follow up actions with respect to any of the above projects on behalf of the team.

Skills and experience

Demonstrated understanding of effective customer service
Demonstrated understanding of the regulatory role Council plays for the business
Demonstrated understanding of the State Government Better Business Approvals project.
Proficiency in the use of a broad knowledge of computer applications in a Microsoft Windows environment.
Excellent communication skills to assist in discussions and issue resolution within the community.
Self-motivation and initiative.
Highly developed organisational/time management skills.
Ability to retrieve and monitor statistical information relating to the units program delivery and to be able to prepare regular status reports which can readily identify areas requiring extra attention.
Basic communication and marketing skills.
Basic knowledge of managing social media channels in particular Instagram and Facebook.
