Accountant (Full-Time)

St Stephen Enterprises Pty Ltd is operating an IGA retail business in Brunswick East. We are part of a company group that operates IGA retail businesses in Victoria. We are seeking a degree-qualified and experienced accountant to join us.

The successful candidate will be responsible of managing the accounting and financial aspects of our business operations as well as to ensure compliance of accounting, associated record-keeping requirements, financial and taxation matters.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Developing and managing budgetary and accounting policies.
  • Managing and compiling cash flow statements, financial forecasts, and preparation of annual accounts.
  • Compiling monthly profit and loss reports, and coordinating with the management to monitor and refine costs to deliver financial objectives.
  • Providing accounting and financial advice to the management.
  • Checking expenditure payments and accounts receivable collections against accounting recording system.
  • Investigating financial discrepancies to ensure the accuracy of accounting information and to meet the relevant statutory compliance requirements.
  • Working collaboratively with external auditors to ensure business credibility and compliance with regulations.
  • Preparation of quarterly BAS reports, monthly PAYG, company tax return, FBT, state payroll tax and superannuation guarantee contribution.
  • Managing all accounting operations, including accounts payable, and preparation of daily bank and monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Managing and maintaining monthly balance sheet, general ledger, accruals and expense recoveries journals, and refining and maintaining the asset register, including depreciations, additions and disposals journals.
  • Preparing end-to-end payroll processing, including handling all payroll enquiries and associated HR functions for employees and conducting all end-of-year payroll processing.
  • Administering of hire purchase and financing of the business motor vehicles, including preparing all associated documentation.
  • Estimating, preparing and authorising payments for invoices.
  • Examining cash flow and identifying potential financial risks.
  • Assisting the management to liaise with ASIC, ATO, SRO and external auditors to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Regular reporting to the management on the accounting, financial and taxation matters.

To be considered for this full-time position, it is essential you have: 

  • At least a bachelor degree or higher qualification in accounting.
  • At least three (3) years of accounting experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and accounting software.
  • In-depth understanding of business bookkeeping procedures.
  • Solid knowledge of the Australian accounting and taxation regulations.
  • Excellent numeracy skills with an attention to detail.
  • Good time-management abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency.

Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 plus superannuation (depending on relevant work experience)
