R&D Team Leader - Optics and Devices Printing Technology

PERSOLKELLY - Craigieburn, VIC



Our client, a world leader in polymers and extruded film materials, is seeking an experienced Optics and Devices Senior Development Scientist to join their team in Melbourne / Northern Suburbs.

The Optics and Printing Devices R&D Team Leader will support the identification, timely development and implementation of new products, processes and product improvements that support the short-term and medium-term strategic objectives of the company.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of new product developments in the field of optics and devices e.g. soft emboss, double soft emboss, diffractive and non-diffractive optical variable devices, applied devices.
  • Lead a team responsible for product and process development from concept to launch.
  • Delivering projects to time, quality and cost as agreed through gating reviews and aligned with the company strategy.
  • Support continuous product improvement of the product and applied/commercialised features.
  • Manage and lead effective global cross functional working teams for projects progressing through the R&D gating process.
  • Perform design of experiment testing and trials to identify key operating parameters for the implementation of new technologies/products.
  • Project management and working within a project management environment and using identified project management tools.
  • Communication and updating of stakeholders under the guidance of the R&D Manager.
  • Support the registration of Intellectual property under the guidance of the R&D Manager.
  • Working with technology partners for the successful implementation of new technologies/features.
  • Actively engage in ideation processes to generate new product concept for review.
  • Support technology sensing activities under the leadership of the R&D Manager.


  • Tertiary qualifications in physics (though other science disciplines will be considered) most preferably with a Master's or PhD.
  • Industrial /Research Experience in Product/Process development with a history of taking products to a launch stage.
  • Experience with management of direct reports.
  • Minimum 7 years industrial experience.
  • Proven track record of delivering products into a market.
