An employer can recruit an apprentice or trainee who is still completing their education. The student can be recruited from Year 10 , where they will spend one day a week in paid employment and the remainder of the week completing their secondary education. When they progress to Year 11 they are able to spend two days a week in paid employment, increasing to three days a week in Year 12.

The program, titled 'Head Start' is an initiative of the Victorian Government to increase the number of apprentices and trainees in the following industry sectors:

*Building

*Construction

*Community services and health

*Business

*Primary Industries

As a Head Start employer, you will receive a committed apprentice or trainee matched to your business needs, who is undertaking quality training through a TAFE or Skills First provider.
